The Bentley State Limousine holds a distinguished place in the history of royal transportation. These exceptional vehicles were specially crafted as a gesture of admiration and respect for Queen Elizabeth II. The cars were presented to her by Bentley in 2002, marking her Golden Jubilee, which celebrated her 50 years on the throne. This occasion underscored the significance of the event and the special status of these limousines.
Designed to serve as official state cars, the Bentley State Limousines symbolize luxury, elegance, and royal tradition. The two vehicles were built with meticulous attention to detail, combining Bentley’s legendary craftsmanship with the specific needs of a reigning monarch. They have been used for various official ceremonies, state visits, and ceremonial occasions, representing the British Royal Family at home and abroad.
The vehicles maintained their primary service role throughout the Queen’s life, up until her death in 2022. Following her passing, the Bentley State Limousines transitioned to serve King Charles III, ensuring continuity in the royal fleet of official state vehicles. Notably, during the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II, the Princess Royal utilized one of the limousines while accompanying the Queen's coffin, highlighting the car’s ongoing ceremonial importance.
Both Bentley State Limousines are kept in the Royal Mews, the royal stables and carriage collection located in Buckingham Palace. This facility is responsible for the care and maintenance of the Royal Family's fleet of carriages, cars, and horses. The cars are carefully preserved and maintained to ensure they remain in pristine condition, ready to be called into service for future state functions and ceremonies.
In terms of technical specifications, these limousines are equipped with powerful engines and modern features while maintaining a classic and regal appearance. They are fitted with gasoline engines producing 406 horsepower. The body style is a luxurious four-door sedan, designed for comfort and safety, and they feature an automatic transmission system. These specifications underscore the vehicles' purpose as both functional and prestigious transportation for the royal family.
